Project Overview
Finavera Renewables selected the site on the basis of high and consistent wind speeds and close proximity to the grid, since the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) plans to be build a new 110kV line from Galway through the site. In relation to planning approval, the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government has issued new planning guidelines to fast track wind farm development in Ireland. These will decrease the time required for environmental impact assessment and planning approval.
