Finavera strives to be a responsible corporate citizen by maintaining our commitment to sustainable energy, protecting the environment and engaging the community. We aim to understand and meet the needs of the communities surrounding our wind development projects, as well as the communities we do business within. Our funding priorities reflect our commitments and will develop mutually beneficial relationships that will contribute to a sustainable energy future.
Finavera invests in initiatives that:
Each summer, West Moberly First Nations run the Summer Student Employment Project to employ as many youth in their community as possible. This year, Finavera sponsored a student in the program which saw a success rate of one in 20 youth employed in the community.
For the program, youth were separated into five different departments: tourism, general labour, housing, ranch and maintenance. While the youth completed diverse tasks and acquired new skills, they also learned a variety of aspects of their culture at different events throughout the program such as: hunting, fishing, trapping, archery, pow wow dance, traditional story-telling, carcass cutting, dry meat making and more. Other program events included community volunteerism, community clean-up, awareness seminars, workshops and specialized courses.
For more information about this valuable program or to get involved, you may contact Amanda Peters, Recreation Coordinator with the West Moberly First Nations, at recreation@westmo.org.
